Summarize the basic claim in the article

This week we have been learning about the different types of arguments (deductive and inductive).

Your task is to find a media example of EITHER a deductive or inductive argument about religion. It can be ANYTHING related to religion (e.g., a particular tradition or denomination, a topic such as religious views about abortion).

It can be the argument of an entire piece, or more commonly, it can be part of an article. Please note, you are really going to have to analyze the article carefully, because many of the underlying arguments may not be obvious. You can use your own judgment on this.

– You will have to pick out some (NOT all) of the assumptions underpinning the article – or a part of it, form an argument based on your understanding of what the author is saying or trying to say. You only need ONE argument.

The media should be a news report or article (including a popular article), see the list of news sites as listed in week 1, and you can also search the internet using key words such as religion. If you absolutely cannot find any articles from the news on the topic, you may use an excerpt from a video (documentary) or news program, but a written piece is preferable.

The article should be within the last 10 years.

1. Put the website or link to the article at the top of your commentary

2. Summarize the basic claim in the article or part of it (a few sentences or less).

3. Drawing from your critical thinking tool-box (what you have learned), identify the logic in the statement.

-What premise(s) and conclusions are there?

– Is it a deductive or inductive argument?

– is it valid or strong?

You must address the above 3 questions.

The word limit is 200. Any more, and you will be penalized.

Spell check and grammar proof your work!
