System Requirement Specification

Requirements

The Band-Aid health system is looking to increase the number of patients participating in the clinical trials offered by the Band-Aid physicians. Some departments such as oncology and orthopedics tend to have a higher participation rate than internal medicine and cardiology.  There are 200 clinical trials available for Band-Aid patients but it is difficult to keep track of the trials that are actively recruiting participants and the trials that are closed to participants. There does not appear to be a central location within the EHR that has a listing of available trials or the eligibility criteria for each trial. Patients can find a listing of clinical trials available on the clinicaltrials.gov website but it is not clear how to determine if the principal investigator is part of the Band-Aid health system network or if the patient meets eligible criteria.

Task:

Create a partial System Requirement Specification document to give to the software development team for the Band-Aid health system application.  The document, at a minimum, should contain the following sections:

  1. Introduction
    • Business Need
    • Project Scope
  2. Project Overview
    • Describe the customer for the project and the intended users of the system.
    • Provide a complete description of the problem to be solved. Justify a computerized solution to the problem and explain why the software needs to be developed rather than a commercial product bought off the shelf.
    • Describe the main features of the proposed system
    • Review the most important constraints that may impact design decisions
  3. Functional Requirements
  1. Nonfunctional Requirements
