PROMPT: You are required to write approximately ten pages on a particular topic directly related to Augustine’s Confessions. There is a generous amount of scholarship on Augustine and the Confessions. You have the freedom to choose any theme directly related to the Confessions. You may choose to develop a theme in collaboration with secondary source material. Common themes explored in the Confessions include: evil; Monica; friendship; sin; freedom; love; Ambrose; sexuality; lust; teaching; Manichaeism; death; grief; faith; conversion; and so on…

FORMAT: Approximately ten pages. Double-spaced |12 point font (any standard font) | One inch margins on all sides.

CITATION AS FOOTNOTES: Since this is a research paper, you have to demonstrate your efforts in research through placing yourself in conversation with a number of scholarly sources. In general, you would do well to have 3-4 footnotes per page of writing. You are expected to cite your sources by following the Chicago Manual of Style. In addition to the footnotes, you need to provide a bibliography at the end of the research paper. SECONDARY SOURCE DOCUMENTS: You must constructively employ at minimum three to five secondary sources in collaboration with their analysis Augustine’s Confessions. The additional secondary sources should enrich and deepen your analysis of the Confessions. You should place your reading the Confessions in conversation with the secondary source.
