there has been recent talk about capping the pay for executives of not-for-profit organizations. The reason for the cap is so that executives understand the purpose for which they decided to work for a not-for-profit in the first place, that being to help the general public. The belief is that people working for not-for-profits should be focusing on results for the communities they serve and not how much they are getting paid. For example, should executives of not-for-profits get paid more than the President of the United States? Should they get paid more than corporate executives working at for-profit organizations? What are the ethical considerations that go into where you stand on this issue? Please explain why you believe or do not believe executives of non-profits should have a cap on the amount of money they can make working for a not-for-profit organization and why you came to your conclusion.
2.- You started your own business and during your research of what you need to get started, you determined that you need to hire at least one person to assist you with all the demands of the business. The person you need is an assistant. Since money is one of your concerns, you only want to hire the person part-time, 3 days a week for $12/hr. The person will be in the office answering PHONES and doing administrative work. According to the Dept. of Labor, this person would be considered an employee which would require you to withhold taxes. However, since it’s not that much money, you’d rather pay the person in cash as an independent contractor. You think it would be much easier on you to do it that way. Ethically, what will you decide to do? Please explain your decision and why? How does ethics play a role in your decision?
