Topic: essay

Order DescriptionWriter can chose the question itself. From the 2 questions given below and its 1000 words.

Questions

Choose one of the questions below and answer all parts of the question:
With reference to either the United Nations Security Council critically evaluate the obstacles to engaging in humanitarian intervention and peace building.
OR
Responsibility to Protect (R2P) codifies our moral obligation to vulnerable persons in conflict and disaster zones. Critically evaluate the doctrine in relation to current actions or inaction in Syria.
Your response should consider TWO specific issues and address these only. You are not expected to solve the Syrian crisis in 1000 words.
NOTE: Both questions have “assumed knowledge”. The functions and principles of the UNSC, regional organisations and R2P are known by your marker and should not be detailed in your essay. After a brief introduction, use your word count to get straight to the point!
Your response must be supported by a minimum of 6-8 academic references. Please review Week One Lecture Slides if you are unclear on what these include.
Instructions

In their assignment students must ensure they address the question directly and all parts of the question. Critical analysis is an absolute requirement. As such, students should avoid generalised summaries of information and/or “fence-sitting” on issues.

An important note: All topics within this Unit and questions for this assignment are both contentious and emotive. It is expected that students will be both respectful and moderate in the expression of their opinions and arguments. It is not necessary for students to adopt “mainstream” thinking/opinions however, all arguments must be supported by reference to established, legitimate academic sources.

References / Readings

Students may use their research to the readings for this Unit. However, more extensive and relevant reading will garner better marks. It is expected that the extra references will consist of academic works (books and journals) accessed through libraries.

The web, though useful, should be limited to sourcing information about examples used and should not be considered as taking the place of academic tomes. Wikipedia and similar open source sites should NOT be used.

Style & Presentation – Some Dos and Don’ts

This work should be presented in essay style and format. As such, the written style should be discursive.

Subheadings should be avoided.

Every work should include an introduction clearly stating the approach adopted in the assignment, the definition of central terms and a general summary of the progression of the work. The main body of the essay should present an evolving and logical argument in which references are woven throughout, along with examples. The argument of the essay should lead logically to the conclusion in which students draw together the important points of their work and leaves the reader with a clear understanding of their perspective and perhaps with a thought provoking final remark. All works should include a Reference List (not a Bibliography). Photos, Illustrations and Tables should be included in Appendices (which come after the Reference List).

All students should adhere to an accepted referencing style and remain consistent throughout the assignment.
