Your class colleagues have each put a PowerPoint presentation and delivered presentations on 1-22 chapters of the Toyota Way. The goal of this assignment is to assess YOUR understanding of the Toyota Way.

Imagine this scenario:

You are on an interview for a Supplier Chain Management Leader position for Company X. Company X has narrowed the job offer down to you and another candidate. The final decision on who is going to get the offer will be based on a technical interview in the form of a training session. Company X has an opportunity to work with a new customer on a multi-million dollar business for the next 10 years. Company X can do everything that the customer wants, but the customer will ONLY sign the contract with Company X on the following two criteria: 1) Company X must ONLY buy products from suppliers who have adopted the Toyota Way Vision; AND 2) Company X must adopt the Toyota Way Vision in the next 3 months. Company X really wants to do business with this customer and is looking for someone who has an understanding of the Toyota Way Vision, to coach and mentor their supply chain team to embrace and adopt the Toyota Way Vision in Company X within the next 3-months.

Assignment:

  1. Assumption: You did eventually read the entire book over the past 4 months
  2. Download all the powerpoint presentation that your classmates have prepared.
  3. Hopefully, you paid attend during the class presentations and took away the key pointers.
  4. Your job is to build a powerpoint presentation that can be delivered in a 1-2 hours training session to the supply

    chain team at Company X.

  5. Do NOT MAKE your presentation wordy (you can put all your talking points into the note section of the powerpoint

    presentation.

  6. Put an agenda slide to prepare the audience of what you plan to cover. The presentation must have this flow to

    address the following concerns of the supply chain team at Company X:

    1. At a very high-level, what really is the Toyota way?
    2. What is meant by “the World-Class Power of the Toyota Way?”
    3. Why is customer making a big deal about the Toyota Way?
    4. All employees in Company X are very busy, introducing the Toyota Way will only slow us down. In 1-2 Slides, what can you say to the employees, so that they can see the POTENTIAL benefits of embracing the Toyota Way’s Vision and are willing to give you a chance to lead them to adopt the vision of the Toyota Way?
    5. At a very high-level, what are the processes in the Toyota Way that will produce the results and how are these results measured?
    6. At a very high-level, how will the Toyota Way add to the Organization (please be specific)? Please do not just add that you will get THIS Customer’s business … that is a given.
    7. At a very high-level, how will the Toyota Way drive problem-solving and organizational learning?
    8. Help us understand the thinking behind the lean tools and the approach so that we know that we can make a comprehensive and lasting integration of Toyota’s 4P Model in our organization and throughout Company X?
    9. How do you plan to Apply the Toyota Way in Company X?
    10. How are we going to measure the success in the next 3 months?
