Final Project Overview
As we have studied in class, organizations face a large variety of cultural, structural and interpersonal communication issues. Topics have included leadership, new technologies and their impact on organizations, organizational climate and culture, ethics, formal and informal channels of communication within organizations, management of diversity and conflict, relational communication (with interpersonal and group work), and issues of power and politics within the context of the organizational settings.
Each student will submit a final paper (6-8 pages) that delves deeper into one of these significant issues concerning organizational communication. The topic, selected by the student and approved by the professor, can focus on any of the subjects listed on the syllabus.
The project will include research into outside sources (at least three in addition to course text) as well as an interview with at least one person employed by a large organization.
Oral Presentations
Please create a 3-5 minute presentation outlining your learning.
Presentation should be 3-5 minutes. No more, no less. Power points or Prezis are good but not required.
Research Papers
For your final paper, you will write a 6-8 page (no more, no less) paper on Traditional Strategies of Organizing and Relational Strategies of Organizing, including your research from academic sources and your interview. Your paper should include:
Your papers should be typed, double-spaced with one-inch margins and a reasonable font and text size (nothing microscopic or enormous). They should be closely proofread and edited. Have a friend read it. Read it out loud tot yourself. Make sure your sentences make sense!

____ 1. Outline and Executive summary –identifies, organizes and summarizes the major points in your paper. (10)
____ 2. Clear explanation of the thesis statement in your opening paragraph that you will support and explain in your paper. This should be written as an interesting lead that will capture the reader’s attention and identify the focus of your paper. (20)
____ 3. Analytical essay, that examines, explains, explores, and expands your topic with facts, examples and evidence drawn from your sources. You should provide a thoughtful interpretation and detailed, insightful understanding of the material cited in your paper. (30)
____ 4. Conclusion summarizes what was learned, answers the most significant questions and expresses your personal opinion and response to the material. (10)
____ 5. Internal citations –When you use examples and quotes to support your points, make sure your footnotes correctly attribute all direct quotes, paraphrases and facts etc. to the original source of the information. (15)
