UNESCO incorporated the galapagos islands

“Q – UNESCO (one of the United Nations organizations) incorporated the Galapagos Islands as part of the World Heritage in 1978. Research and comment in at least two of the following:
• What is the World Heritage?
• The location of the Galapagos Islands
• How is Darwin related to the Galapagos Islands?
• Many of the plant and animal species that inhabit the Galapagos Islands are endemic. What does this mean?
• What cyclical climatic event has a huge influence on weather around the world, and especially on the Galapagos Islands?

A – The location of the Galapagos Islands: The Galapagos are located 600 miles from the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, northwest of South America and the origin of the Islands is volcanic. The first human being in the Islands was Tomas de Berlanga, a Spanish bishop who was navigating close to the shore of Central America on an apostolic mission in 1535. Furthermore, the islands appeared from lava eruption that came from the bottom of the ocean and that rise as more than 2,600 feet above sea level and the islands had more than 2,000 craters has continuously altered the terrain of the region (Galapagos Islands Tour Guide 2011). Until, 1859 the evolutionary view of life came into focus when the British biologist Charles Darwin published the “The Origin of Species”. His book developed two main points. First, Darwin marshaled the available evidence in support of the evolutionary view that species living today descended from ancestral species. He called this process “descent with modification.” It is an insightful phrase, as it captured the duality of life’s unity (descent) and diversity (modification). In his view, for example, the diversity of bears is based on different modifications of a common ancestor from which all bears descended. Second, he proposed a mechanism for decent with modification. He called this process natural selection (Simon el al. 2010).
