Discussion – In the Module Nine Discussion (access by clicking on Discussions in the Course Tools menu and selecting Module Nine Discussion), post your response to the following question. Survey the primary and secondary sources linked below (sample from the sources – you do not need to read each one, per se), then engage (that means a conversation/dialogue) your classmates in a discussion on the Module Nine discussion post. Your comments should address the prompt below and they must reference at least two of these primary sources in support of your argument. This rubric [PDF] will be used to score your discussion assignments.
Scholars, scientists, and politicians have debated the role that the atomic bomb played in forcing the Japanese to surrender. Was the United States ‘right’ to have dropped two atomic bombs on Japan?
Be sure to explain your position completely, citing evidence to support your conclusions. Moreover, engage your classmates in discussion by responding to at least two separate posts.
You must engage your classmates in a healthy discussion/debate about the matter. Do not be afraid to take a controversial position. You must be respectful of other’s opinions, however. Comments which attack individuals rather than ideas are subject to the Code of Student Conduct.

Acknowledge your classmates’ posts. React to their ideas, make observations, or ask questions about what they’ve said.
Build upon these posts by providing additional details, ideas, personal perspectives, interpretations, answers, or links to interesting, relevant articles.
Conclude with a question or new idea to further stimulate the discussion.
