PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

· March 20, due date by 11:00pm Miami time

· You can submit the midterm in printed format in class (I prefer this and it will expedite the grading process) or send them to me via email before the due date.

· The questions are open ended, may have multiple components, and require critical thinking. I expect the answers to be in essay format.

· You are free to incorporate outside academic/IR sources not covered in class, but please cite them in an acceptable format (Chicago Manual, APA, MLA etc). Paraphrase and use your own words. I don’t want to see huge block texts cited from other sources. I.e., do not plagiarize.

· You can contact me regarding any questions you have.

Guidelines for format:

Ø Indicate your full name in the header.

Ø Use size 11 Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing, and standard margins.

Ø Write no less than 6, but no more than 7 pages in total (so, 3-4 pages per answer).

Book to use for information: us foreign policy michael cox and doug stokes second edition Do not plagiarize.

QUESTIONS

CHOOSE AND ANSWER TWO OF THE FOLLWING QUESTIONS:

1. According to Realists, how could a war break out between US and China? Provide system-level, unit-level, and individual-level reasons.

2. IR Liberals underscore the pacific effects of political and economic liberalism, and international organizations on world politics. Explain the reasoning behind these mechanisms. Are there contradictions in the core Liberal argument? Justify your answer.

3. How do the theories discussed in class so far (Realism(s), Liberalism, Neoliberal Institutionalism, and the English School) approach the concept of international anarchy? Which do you think is a better approximation of contemporary international politics?
