War; what is it good for

Description
War, what is it good for? We have chatted about revolutions, nationalism, WW1; we have discussed who starts trouble, for what reason. We have briefly considered who actually fights and dies and what makes them do it, this of course is where the myth of ‘ thank you for your service ‘ comes from. Veterans day is not a form of memorial…think what it might be!!! The difficult thesis for this week centers around: That by fighting wars, people have created larger, more organized societies that have reduced the risk that their members will die violently. In addition, while war is the worst imaginable way to create larger, more peaceful societies, it is pretty much the only way humans have found. Additionally, as well as making people safer, the larger societies, over the long term, have made us richer. Peace created the conditions for economic growth and rising living standards. We could conclude then, war has produced bigger societies, ruled by stronger governments which have imposed peace and created the pre conditions for prosperity. Mmmmmmmh, war is a good thing????please avoid emotional pathos, it is so superficial and terribly annoying.
