Water Budget Project

→ Two Powerpoint slides that you present in two minutes that should include your watershed location, watershed boundaries, the stations you will use to solve your water budget, type of vegetation, range in elevation, underlying geology.

→ 2 page overview of your project must be submitted (either through email or in class).

Name and location of watershed (with a map)

Description of lithology and aquifer systems

Description of major streams

Monthly graphs of total ET, precipitation, Groundwater levels, and Surface water inputs and outputs. (List all sources where you are deriving your data).

→ 2 Slide five minute talk comparing the annual/month precipitation and evapotranspiration to the 30 year climate averages. What might this mean for the water budget.

→ Presentation → 10 min + Questions

Background on watershed and description of geology/aquifers

Groundwater flow map

Figures depicting water balance parameters

Does the watershed balance on your annual cycle? If not, please describe why?

Presentation style

Legible font (including axis on graphs)

Logical flow

Distinguishable colors on figures

→Report → Maximum 10 pages.

12 pnt font, times, appropriate headers, page numbers, figure numbers, table numbers

Sections: Background, Water Budget Components, Discussion on Annual Water Budget Outcome

Report should include the follow

Map of watershed area, delineating watershed boundaries and show the location of known groundwater wells for observation and pumping

Characterization of the watershed size, elevation range, major waterway, cities, towns, etc.

Description of geology of the watershed and the aquifer system.

Table and figures that quantify they monthly water budget value for the following parameters:

ET

Precip

GW

SW

Pumping

Change in Storage

Figures depicting GW and SW levels over the year.

Groundwater flow direction map

Does the watershed balance on your annual cycle? If not, please describe why?
