Writing about Literature
Assignment:
Goal is to write a paragraph,or multiple paragraphs, about why it is important to read and write about literature. What does one gain from reading and writing about literature? Who is your audience? What elements are explored and analyzed? These are just a few questions that you may want to answer.
Sources:
If you paraphrase or quote the text directly, then you must include a parenthetical
citation within your paragraph. Otherwise, the use of direct quote
s is unnecessary.
Person:
Third person (they, he, she, it)
DO NOT USE FIRST OR SECOND PERSON!
(I, me,
mine, you, your, etc.)
Length:
Minimum of 300
words whether you write one paragraph or multiple paragraphs. You
are free to write more, but you must
have at least 300 words.
Organization:
Logical, clear sequence
. Your paragraph should have a topic sentence, supporting
details, and a concluding sentence. If you want to divide the writing assignment into multiple
paragraphs, then
you will use the same
format topic, support, conclude.
Format:
Your essay must be typed, double spaced, and follow MLA format.
