The Casey Dental work plan aims at developing an understanding of the main areas of practice, functions, and the nature of the work environment to aid in the improvement of my knowledge and skills. In the work plan, several areas of general administration and clinical practice are covered so that a general view of practice is developed for better understanding. In the next section, the area of general administration is covered.
Objectives and Outcomes:
? Meet with my preceptor to discuss my work plan.
? Find out about other opportunities that were not mentioned in work plan.
? Arrange all the required projects and identify projects that I will participate in.

General Administration 55 hours
Goals
? In this area, the goal is to develop understanding on the management of the entity, its resources and staff. Proper management of these aspects is necessary to ensure proper delivery of services and improving performance. Costs, quality, and resources management are important to the clinic and their proper management has implications on the overall outcome of service delivery.
The Objectives and Outcomes:
? Managerial and Finance Functions
o Learn how develop reports covering the areas of clinical practice
o Learn ways of resource management including staff, equipment, assets, and cash as part of the major resources to the organization.
o Understand ways managing time including scheduling appointments, assigning staff to attend patients, reorganizing functions, and scheduling equipment usage.
o To learn new ways of managing technology resources to achieve organizational functions
o To understand how financial aspects are managed including budgeting, cash management, service pricing and capital management.
o Learning the aspects of banking, taxation, and regulatory payments is also necessary in this case.
o To learn the regulatory requirements of the business including licensing, compliance with clinical guidelines and industry best practice.
o Understanding how to manage, compensate, and motivate key staff through a combination of approaches.
o To understand the safety and health needs of the business and how they can be met with optimal resources.
? Human Resource Management
o To learn how positions are created and advertised so that qualified personnel can fill them.

Clinical Care and Services 90 hours
• Goals
o To understand quality dental care services for all patients through a comprehensive quality-assurance adherence.
o To understand how to deliver quality dental services and health care to clients in line with laid down procedures and regulations such as Health and Safety Guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability, GDC guidelines, Joint Commission among other legislations.

o Clinical Operations Management
? Learn how to maintain and improve dental services quality by participating in quality improvement and implementation processes for the dental clinic.
? Understand how to sustain a clean, secure and compliant working environment in accordance with all national, regional, local, and institutional policies and regulations such as OSHA, WISHA, and HIPPA requirements.
? Learn the process of investigating harms and adverse events as well as client complaints associated with the services offered at the clinic; establish and carries out correct action and follow-up according to the facility laid down policies and procedures.
o Comprehensive Care and Oral Disease Prevention
? Learn about various disciplines into an individualized, all-inclusive, progressive treatment plan using diagnostic, risk evaluation and prognostic information for clients with complex needs.
? Apprehend the dental treatment plans for individuals in a way that considers and incorporate the patients’ medical, mental and social needs.
? Learn more by participating in diagnosis and management of oral manifestations of systemic diseases.
o Promoting Oral health and Disease Prevention
? To learn how the usage behavioral and prevention techniques such as oral hygiene education, nutritional sensitization, as well as pharmacologic intervention to help patients sustain and advance their oral health.
o Diagnosis and Treatment
? Acquire and evaluate a patient’s main complaint, history of current illness, oral, relations, and cultural. In addition to medical, and social histories, including systems review.

o Sedation, Pain and Anxiety Control
? Understand the to use of behavioral and pharmacologic approaches to the management of pain and anxiety because of psychosocial factors and impending clinical procedures.
? Learn how to prevent, realize, and manage complications arising from the use of medication intended to control pain and anxiety.
General Dentistry:
Goal
To learn how the area of general dentistry is run in Casey Dental. This is in terms of the administration of services and the clinical aspects of the area. The area of general dentistry has several clinical operations including implants, fillings, bridges, crowns, root canals and preventative education. One main goal is to understand how these services are provided and the ways the clinic administers the services to patients on a daily basis. Casey Dental offers these services to patients on a daily basis and the business in this area forms a substantial share of the work in the facility. Therefore, it is important to understand the different services and the practical aspects of service provision.
o Objective
To understand how the facility administers the service including scheduling patients, assigning doctors and resource allocation. Since the facility has limited resources and equipment, it is necessary to understand how these are optimized to ensure availability for patients.
o Outcomes
? To learn how management allocates resources for the provision of general dentistry services.
? To understand how management provides equipment and professionals to attend different patients.
? To learn the procedures of appraising performance and increasing quality for the patients.
• Clinical
o Objective
The objective is to understand the practical aspects of care provision in this area. The care needs are evaluated and the equipment, patient outcomes, quality aspects, and regulatory aspects need to be understood.
o Outcomes
? To obtain a patient record in this area and evaluate the patient’s dental issue, history of illness, past treatments, and other aspects. This is important to understand how the patient was diagnosed in the general dentistry division and offered treatment.
? To learn how patients are evaluated and treated in relation to fillings, bridges, crowns, veneers and dental implants by observing the patient record and images of before & after the treatment.
Orthodontics:
Goal
The main goal is to understand how the orthodontics section ensures that patients achieve orthodontic care provided in this facility. It is important to understand the nature of treatments (traditional and modern techniques) as well as the materials and equipment required. It is also a goal to understand the staff attends to needs and quality issues involved.
o Objectives
? To understand the allocation of equipment and materials required for traditional and modern techniques of care.
? To understand how patients are scheduled, attended to and released after service provision.
? The objective is to understand how the service is provided in terms of the types of care, alternatives, outcomes, and quality of care.
o Outcomes:
? The outcome in this area is clear understanding of the managerial inputs in this section and how these contribute to a high-quality service in orthodontic care.
? To comprehend case of a patient treated in this section – the chosen alternative and orthodontic appliances (plastic, metal, or ceramics) are evaluated.
? To understand the evaluate cases of a patient with traditional braces or history, and the services offered & its overall outcome.
Special needs
Goal
The goal is to understand the main aspects of the special needs section and its operations, outcomes, and quality of care.
o Objective
? To understand how care is administered for patients with special dental needs in terms of resources, staff time, equipment, and industry guidelines.
? To evaluate this section by observing records on the equipment, staff, and other resources available for patient care.
? To learn from individual cases by observing records so that the care through general dentistry, surgery, and other approaches are achieved
? To understand the physical and developmental challenges that face patients to be able to provide the treatment needed
? To learn the additional equipment offered, for example, wheelchair assistance and dental chairs.

? The outcome is greater understanding of the administrative aspects involved in this section. This is achievable through the process evaluation of cases of patients with special needs to understand how their problem was solved and how management administered the resources.

? To learn from individual cases by observing records so that the care through general dentistry, surgery, and other approaches are achieved

Children Dentistry Center
Goal
To understand the dental care and services provided for infants, toddlers, and teenage children. It is also an objective to understand the provision of resources and the special or sensitive treatment offered for children.
o Objective
To understand how the management controls this division in relation to the dental services for infants, toddlers, and teenage children.
? To learn how young patients are taught oral hygiene including aspects of eating, dental visits, brushing teeth, and flossing.
? To evaluate how staff has been trained and sensitized to care for children and make them feel comfortable when they visit the facility.
o Outcomes
? To understand cases of children who have received care from this division to learn the dental problem and the solution offered
