Write a Report using descriptive and inferential statistical methods
In this assignment, you will work with a real dataset to test 3 formally posed research questions with an inferred hypothesis and an open-ended research question. The data is from a recent study of middle school math achievement in a context where students use the Cognitive Tutor, an intelligent tutoring system for mathematics, as a supplement to their typical classroom mathematics instruction. Data is attached.
Using the range of descriptive and inferential statistical methods you have learned (Descriptive Statistics, Bivariate, Correlation, Regression, Independent Sample t-test, Levene’s Test, Univariate Analysis of Variance, ANOVA, Multiple Comparison Tests), you are responsible for completing an original report that addresses the following four research questions.
1) Does the number of Cognitive Tutor units a student completes predict their achievement in math?
2) Do students’ grades in their math course increase from the first to the last quarter?
3) Do students in the regular track complete more Cognitive Tutor units during the course of the year than students in the slower track?
4) How do student characteristics affect their performance in math?
For each research question, you should:
a) Describe the rationale behind your analytical approach.
b) Report the results of your statistical analyses with test statistics and tables/figures where warranted.
c) Formally provide an answer to the research question.
d) Describe the results with respect to the size of the effect/relationship and its meaning in a real-world context.
Must submit a copy of your SPSS output for each research question that contains only analyses presented in your report.
Research narratives, one for each question 1 – 4, should be approximately one half a page long.
If a research question is best answered by including tables or figures, include the tables or figures.
For all analyses use alpha = .05 as your criterion for determining significance.
